Boxing Against Hungarian David Berna

Qais Ashfaq won a gold medal this weekend in Finland, dominating his semi-final against Hungarian David Berna to take victory by second round stoppage before going on to leave Frenchman Elias Friha chasing shadows in a one-sided final.

At 60kg, Sandy Ryan lost her semi-final to Finland’s Mira Potkonen, but due to the round robin format of the competition the GB boxer was given an opportunity to box on finals day, finishing the tournament on a high as she stuck to tactics and made light work of Charlene Jones, keeping her experienced Welsh opponent at bay with a stiff jab and good movement throughout.

At 60kg Tom Wilson was the aggressor for most of his semi-final bout against to Sofiane Oumiha, but the Frenchman did enough on the back foot to edge a close bout.

Felix Cash lost his semi-final following a mature performance in which he seemed to do enough to beat a wild and ragged opponent. The GB boxer suffered a cut in the last minute due a head collision, losing on a split decision.

A heavy blow to the stomach early in Jake Ball’s semi-final ended the GB boxer’s tournament, and Portsmouth heavyweight Greg Bridet suffered a unanimous loss against Finland’s Tom Honka, an experienced opponent who Bridet struggled to overcome.
