Actress received award for her charity work at Miss World 2014 finale

Aishwarya Rai Bachan has been honoured with a special award at the Miss World 2014 ceremony in London.

The 41-year-old actress was recognised by The Miss World Organisation for her charity work and her commitment to ‘beauty with a purpose’ since winning the Miss World title two decades ago.

The actress looked gorgeous in a shimmery gown when she appeared on stage alongside her Bollywood actor husband Abhishek Bachan, their daughter Aaradhya as well as her mother Vrinda Rai.

The Indian beauty said in her acceptance speech, “I stand here overwhelmed by this honour. I thank Miss World Organization for such an incredible honour that I have received.”

“To have the opportunity to hold the title, to wear the crown with pride… that was my one time to go out there and experience beauty with a purpose.”

The finale of the 2014 event saw Rolene Strauss, the 22-year-old South African beauty, win the crown. India’s Jaipu-born Koyal Rana, 21, failed to make it to the top five, finished in the top 10 in the international beauty pageant.

Aishwarya, who is seen as the most successful Miss World so far, won the crown at the international beauty pageant in 1994.

The last Indian winner of the coveted title was Bollywood actress and singer Priyanka Chopra, who won the crown in 2000.
