Waqas Saeed up for Rising star Award

IT may be facing an uncertain future but the BBC Asian Network has something to smile about after presenter Waqas Saeed was nominated for a prestigious Sony Radio Academy Award.

The Early Breakfast Show presenter is in the running for the Rising Star Award just ten months after taking over the slot.

But the Manchester-born presenter will have to beat off stiff competition if he is to walk away with the prize.

Also nominated in the category are Jarvis Cocker for BBC6 Music, Lucy Jones at 107.6 Banbury Sound, James Lister and Dave Chipman for Silk 106.9, and Max Dickins at Absolute Radio.

“Having my radio show recognised where I talk about completely random things is incredible,” Waqas said. “Another highlight was finding out I’m in the same category as Jarvis Cocker. Wow.”

The winner will be announced on May 10th at TheGrosvenor House Hotel, London, hosted by Chris Evans.
