Teen, 15, appears in court
A SMALL Heath man who suffered a serious head injury after being assaulted outside a Mosque has died in hospital.
The 21-year-old had been on a life support machine since the incident on Friday 1 June just after 2.30pm at the junction Somerville Road and St Oswald’s Road.
He was pronounced dead at 3pm this afternoon; a forensic post mortem will take place in due course.
West Midlands Police have charged a 15-year-old local lad in connection with the incident.
He appeared at Birmingham Youth Court this morning where, after a bail application was refused, he was remanded into a youth offenders’ institute until his next court appearance on June 13.
Detective Chief Inspector Sab Johal from West Midlands Police’s Force CID, said: “The 15-year-old has been in court facing a charge of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and we will be liaising with the Crown Prosecution Service to review the situation.”
Two other men arrested on Friday night aged 42- and 20-years-old and also from Small Heath have both been released on police bail until a date in July.
Police are still keen to hear from anyone with information about the incident or who witnessed a disturbance outside the Noor-Ul-Uloom mosque in Small Heath on Friday afternoon.
