Presenter will “pursue other radio and TV projects”

TOP Asian DJ Adil Ray will leave the BBC Asian Network, it has been confirmed.

The current breakfast host will leave the station in June to “pursue other radio and TV projects”, a spokesperson for the BBC said.

The news will come as a shock to fans of the station who are already anxious over the future of the national station.

Speaking about his decision, Adil said: “I thank the entire team and of course the listeners. It is with their love and support that I am able to go on and explore the exciting world of comedy and acting. I feel now the time is right to take on these challenges and hope to be working across a number of BBC platforms and beyond.”

He will be replaced as breakfast host by Tommy Sandhu.

Andy Parfitt, Controller, BBC Asian Network, said: “Adil has made a huge contribution to the station over the last nine years and we’d like to thank him for that and wish him every success for the future.”

Adil has spent nine years at the Asian Network and recently featured on the BBC Two comedy series Bellamy’s People.
