Many injuries occurred during a bomb blast which happened at the entrance to the emergency department. Casualties included lawyers and journalists who were accompanying the body of Bilal Anwar Kasi who was shot dead earlier.
Gunfire was also present after the bombing, they have yet to identify the attackers. 53 people have been killed.
Kasi was the president of the Balochistan Bar Association and was shot while on his way to the main court complex.
Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condemned the attacks. “No one will be allowed to disturb the peace of the province.
“The people, policy and security forces in Balochistan have given sacrifices for the country.”
There have been a number of attacks in the city of Quetta resulting from separatist insurgency and sectarian tensions. Victims of these attacks in recent weeks included many lawyers. Kasi had condemned the attacks passionately and called for a two day boycott on court sessions to protest a colleague who was murdered.
Victims of the hospital attack include Baz Muhammad Kakar, provincial bar president, 17 additional lawyers and Shahzad Khan, a cameraman for Aaj TV.
Facebook activated a safety feature for Quetta allowing people to mark themselves or others as safe.
