Will Serve Minimum of 24 Years

A spurned lover who admitted to killing a married mother of two at a historic Wolverhampton hotel has been found guilty of her murder.

Gurminder Singh, 29, had been travelling from London to meet the 29-year-old for almost 12 months believing that she was single.

The court heard that after uncovering the truth Singh was unable to deal with the deceit and brought a knife to a planned rendezvous.

He met Amandeep at the Britannia Hotel on Wednesday 5 March and in a frenzied attack stabbed her to death.

He dialled 999 the following morning and when the ambulance crew arrived at the hotel they found Amandeep dead in the hotel room and Singh with serious knife wounds to his throat.

Singh was taken to hospital for his injuries and was released three weeks later where he was arrested and interviewed.

During his police interview he refused to comment but was later charged with Amandeep’s murder.

Throughout the trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court he denied murdering Amandeep but admitted to killing her in a fit of madness.

The jury today found him guilty of murder and he was given a life sentence and will serve a minimum of 24 years.

Amandeep’s husband Pal Singh, said: “Our family has been left devastated and traumatised by the events of the 5 and 6 March this year. We are heartbroken by the loss of Amandeep.

“We are pleased the person responsible has been found guilty. Both the court trial has been difficult and distressing emotionally for us to endure.

“The family is rallying together to look after Amandeep’s two young sons and we now want to be left alone to grieve and to come to terms with all that has happened.”

Detective Sergent Andy Bradley, from the force’s homicide team, said: “This is a truly tragic case for the family left behind.

“Amandeep leaves two young sons and a devastated husband and family who have to continue to carry picking up the pieces of their lives which changed forever on that fateful day in March.

“We are still unsure how Amandeep met Singh or how long they had been seeing each other. Amandeep had always appeared to be happily married and she doted on her young boys.

“We hope that today’s sentence brings some comfort and closure for the family and our thoughts are with them at this time.”
