Mariam Alam died from a “catastrophic” head injury

Tragic tot Mariam Alam died from a “catastrophic” head injury suffered at a house in Fisher Road, Foleshill, on 30 November 2011.

Kamram Khalid will appear at Birmingham Crown Court to hear accusations he failed to call an ambulance or provide any first aid when she collapsed at his Fisher Road home and later lied to police in an attempt to distance himself from the enquiry. It is also alleged that he removed physical evidence from the house and disposed of it.

The 35-year-old is charged with child neglect and attempting to pervert the course of justice; a charge of murder against him was dropped.

Khalid’s 36-year-old wife Razwannah Yousef and Mariam’s mother Saima Bashir – both from Fisher Road – also face a charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

It is alleged Yousef lied to officers by suggesting Mariam had never set foot in their house and colluded with her husband to invent alibis, whilst 26-year-old Bashir is accused of misleading police over how her daughter came to suffer her fatal injury.
