Police appeal for information

POLICE in Birmingham are on the hunt for a man who stabbed a city shopkeeper before fleeing.

An area of Acocks Green remains closed off this morning after a serious incident on Yardley Road at 4.45pm on Tuesday 13 July.

A man, believed to be a shopkeeper, received a stab wound during an incident inside the shop. A woman inside the shop also received a cut to her arm.

The man, believed to be aged in his 30s, was taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition.

Detectives from the Force Criminal Investigation Department have launched a major investigation into the incident.

Detective Inspector Verley Tyndale said: “One man has been seriously injured during this incident which took place inside a small local shop.

“We believe the offender was a white man who left the scene on foot along Yardley Road towards Augusta Road and we urgently appeal for anyone who was in the area around 4.45pm to 5pm to come forward and pass on any information they may have.

“This is a very busy road and many people will have been in the area, or passing through at the time. They could well hold information which may prove vital as this investigation progresses.”

Specialist Forensic Scene Investigators are at the scene along with search teams and detectives from Force CID.

Enquiries taking place include witness trawls, house to house enquiries and CCTV recovery.

Yardley Road currently remains closed at the junction with Florence Road.
