Police investigate racial assault

DETECTIVES in Leicester have appealed for witnesses after two Asian men were assualted in a racially motivated attack.

The men, aged 22 and 23, were attacked in Market Place by three men and two women on in the early hours of Friday 13 July.

The Asian men had enjoyed an evening out with other friends when they were subjected to racist abuse by a woman, police said.

The group continued on their journey heading towards the market but were followed by the woman who was joined by a group of people.

The men were then assualted and received minor injuries, police said.

Two women aged 18 and three men aged 18, 19 and 30 were arrested in connection with the incident and released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Detectives are now urging any witnesses to come forward.

PC Andrew Cogar who is investigating the assault said: “I’m sure there will have been a lot of people in the city centre at this time. The Clock Tower and Market Place are normally fairly busy in the early hours of a Friday morning.

“If you were there last Friday and you witnessed this assault I would urge you to contact us. We really need independent witnesses to come forward and give us their account of this incident
