The Asian Curry Awards were held in November 2013

After winning the Brightest 50 award earlier this year Hesan Faiz Choudhury of the Purple Rooms in Hall Green has excelled further and was honoured with UKs Young Restaurateur of the Year at the Asian Curry Awards on 17th November 2013.

The extravagant award ceremony was held at the Grosvenor House Mayfair, London and was attended by over two thousand guests, including Asian culinary business owners from around the world, MPs, local dignitaries and celebrities.

Hesan Choudhury also known as Harry of The Purple Rooms, was overwhelmed with the accolade. "It's a great honour for me to receive such an accolade. It feels like my hard work is paying off, although there is plenty more work to do. I only intend to bring passion and enthusiasm to restaurant the trade and continue what my father started. The restaurant / curry industry is in my blood and I'd like to take it to another level. We should encourage the younger generation to get involved and move things forward before the curry industry comes to a standstill."

The Asian Curry Awards, known as the Oscars of the Curry Industry, highlights the success of restaurant businesses around the country and Europe. Whether it is Indian, Malaysian, Chinese or Thai cuisines, the best of the regions were awarded with the prestigious award.

Hesan who started working at The Purple Rooms at the age of 14 was never forced to join the trade like many sons are in today's society. Instead his father, Mr Faizur Choudhury MBE encouraged Hesan to stay in education and to not get involved with the family business as it is very stressful. While continuing with education Hesan mastered the techniques of cooking and running a restaurant business from the top. Few years on Hesan is now leading his team to become the best Indian restaurant in the surrounding areas. He recently gave the restaurant a makeover it deserved. He has created a new menu and adapted a different style of running the Indian restaurant. He is looking to preserve what his father created many years ago and intends to push the business forward.

The Purple Rooms has been established since 1988 making it the oldest Indian restaurant in Hall Green and surrounding areas. It continues to grow strong while under the management of Hesan and his team.
