A new mobile advert for EE, featuring Bastille has put Birmingham New Street in a brand-new light.

Network provider EE launched a new campaign across the country, debuting a brand-new advert during ITV2’s Love Island.

The ad was filmed at Birmingham New Street Station, showing commuters experiencing an impromptu gig by Bastille.

The advert was created by Saatchi & Saatchi London and is also running in cinemas and on VoD.

Kevin Bacon once again appears in the ads, but does not feature in Birmingham, makers have confirmed.

Bastille, who play the soundtrack behind last year’s John Lewis ‘Excitable Edgar’ Christmas advert, took commuters by surprise when they unexpectedly performed at the city centre station on November 28

Frontman Dan Smith, surrounded backing dancers, was being filmed for a new EE 5G advert, due to air from January.

EE later confirmed that commuters were treated to the world’s first augmented reality, multi-location gig over 5G, starring the multi-platinum selling British band.

Pete Jeavons, Marketing Communications Director at BT and EE said: “With 5G, our customers can enjoy immersive experiences no matter where they are, even during their commute and in the busiest places.

“We’re saying goodbye to the days of refreshing our screens while waiting to get out of the station into a less congested area.

“This extraordinary AR performance from Bastille in three cities simultaneously, is a great demonstration of what’s now possible for our customers with 5G.”
