Police and paramedics flooded the busy Alum Rock Road near the junction of College Road just before 7.40pm on Tuesday 27 August

He treated at the scene for serious injuries and taken to hospital.

“He was treated for potentially serious injuries and taken to hospital for further assessment.”

A local said: “It happened on the edge of College Road and Alum Rock Road, outside UK Fried Chicken. It looked like the police kept all the customers inside the shop.

“There were many police and one ambulance in the middle of the road and it looked like they were tending to someone.”

A spokesman from the Alum Rock Community Forum which does extensive work in the area, said: “ Very disturbing scenes once again in an area where there has been many knife and gun crime – some of which have been very critical.

“Incidents of this nature have become a norm nowadays with for this to happen in board daylight to a youth on a busy High Street is shocking to say the least, especially in the school holidays in front of young kids.

“The authorities should be doing a lot more to support the community which is suffering from the highest rate of deprivation.

“The youth need support and activities and incentives to keep them occupied and away from such horrendous crimes.”
