A family home in Hall Green was ransacked by burglars and racist graffiti across the walls after they returned home from a wedding.

The homeowner returned to the property in Green Road on the evening of Thursday 22 August to discover the horror attack.

The intruders had damaged white goods, pulled doors off hinges, slashed beds and furniture, splashed paint, smashed crockery and emptied cupboards onto floors.

They also sprayed sickening racist graffiti on the walls.

The thugs switched an iron on before leaving it face down on the carpet, before making off with cash.

The family has been forced to move into a hotel due to the extent of the damages.

The heartbroken father-of-three, who does not wish to be named said: “They destroyed the house. I’m feeling sick.

“I have had a nightmare that these people have come to attack me again and I’m going to see my GP today as I have got chest pains.

“I want to say to the people who did this, you need to educate yourself, get a job.

“I have worked very hard for what I have got. Nothing comes easy. I have been working since the age of 14 and I’m 56.

I have no enemies, I have got loving caring neighbours.”

He had just returned from a wedding in Leicester around 10pm on Thursday, when he noticed the lights on and wardrobe doors open through the windows.

He called 999, who advised him to go inside.

He said: “They had smashed the dining table and damaged the kitchen units and floor. They had thrown the microwave on the floor and the door had broken off. They broke the fridge freezer door.

“They kicked the glass door in the shower. They damaged the utility room and damaged the cupboard used to hide the pipes.”

The intruders daubed further racist slogans upstairs, also slashing beds and a desk and switching an iron on and leaving it face down on the carpet.

They left taking countless items and cash according to the homeowner.

He said: “The police are treating this as a hate crime. They have been very good to me and I am grateful.”
