The Midlands car giant Jaguar Land Rover notched up record-breaking sales figures in December.

JLR celebrated a record-breaking double in the US, with monthly and annual sales rising.

The Midlands car maker sold 14,079 vehicles in December 2018.

This is a 24 per cent increase over the same month in 2017.

The news comes as a welcome boost for Jaguar Land Rover as it copes with a number of challenges, including uncertainty over Brexit, declining demand for diesel vehicles and slowing sales in China.

In December 2018 33 per cent more Land Rovers were sold than in December 2017.

Joe Eberhardt, president and CEO, Jaguar Land Rover North America, said: “We are pleased to finish another year with record-setting sales for Jaguar Land Rover in the US.

“Land Rover continues to prove its reign in the luxury SUV market by achieving its fourth consecutive record-setting sales year on the heels of announcing the highly anticipated return of the iconic Defender to the US market.

“This success is truly a testament to the strength of our product lineup and the dedication of our retailer network.”
