West Midlands Police armed response and dog units raced to Smethwick High Street after reports of gunfire on Sunday 22 July.

Police dogs Phoenix followed the car, joined by armed officers.

The force’s @WMPDogs Twitter account said the car was forced to stop after a chase and “occupants were removed” and a large number of drugs found.

A spokeswoman said: “Firearms officers were sent to the scene and the man was safely disarmed and arrested.

“No-one is believed to have been injured during the incident.”

There was praise on Twitter from police as well as members of the public.
