Police Appeal For Calm Following Incident
Police have appealed for calm after a 24-year-old man was attacked with a ‘huge knife’ at a Tesco store. Zack Davies is said to have shouted ‘white power’ whilst attacking Sarandev Singh Bhambra, who had been on his lunch break.
Senior Investigating Officer DCI Alun Oldfield said “I would like to reassure the local community that this appears to be an isolated incident and from our enquiries to date we believe Davies was acting alone and we are not seeking anyone else in connection with this assault. Crimes of this nature are extremely rare.
“The 24 year old victim remains in hospital with serious life changing injuries. He and his family are being supported by specialist Family Liaison Officers. I am aware there is speculation on Social Media about the assault and I can confirm we are treating it as a hate related, racially and religiously motivated incident.”
Charandeep Singh from the Sikh Channel said that Sikh’s were now living in fear. “The police across the United Kingdom should be allocating resources towards the security of the Sikh community and religious establishments in addition to those for the general public.
“The media has openly and rightly reported the vulnerability of the Jewish community but by an large remain mute regarding the Sikhs.”
