Dancers treated London’s public to surprise Bollywood-inspired performances

A group of over 50 London-based dancers, mainly students from the Shiamak Davar’s The Dance Academy, descended across the capital to treat the public in a number of locations to surprise performances.

Starting their performances with just six dancers, their group quickly grew in numbers, with dancers emerging from all corners of the crowd dancing to catchy Bollywood tunes, as bystanders looked both delighted and bemused.

Calling themselves the BollyMobUK, collectively they are greatly inspired by the popular Indian dance show ‘Nach Baliye’, which is currently on air on a UK Asian TV channel Star Plus (Sky Ch784).

The BollyMobUK is simply an idea driven by their group’s sheer love to perform in order to make others happy by surprising them with highly energised performance, believing that if they’ve managed to inspire a single person to get up and dance that in itself would be wonderful and make their work worthwhile, even if the person had never danced before.

Combining indo contemporary and modern movements with strong ballet grounding and performance-based visuals, their performance worked a treat for everyone who was watching – at various locations across London, which included Tower Hill, Liverpool Street, Southbank and Wembley Central to name a few.

Their buoyant BollyMobUK dance has been circulating across Twitter, Instagram and Facebook already and has even been propelled into the spotlight after the celebrity judge from the dance show Nach Baliye; dancer and choreographer Marzi Pestonji tweeted about BollyMobUK.

Bystander Adam Winstone, 24, was at Wembley Central where the flash mob performed, said: “I would have joined if I knew the moves.”

Sandra Lambert, 37, who saw the group burst into dance on London Bridge, said: “We’re all so caught up in the daily grind that we forget to have fun and do something out of the ordinary. This is truly wonderful that these youths have taken the time out to bring a smile on our faces.”
