Glitz and glamour covered the face of the International Indian Film Academy Awards

In the Spanish capital of Madrid it was nothing less than exquisite with Actors and Actresses causing many hearts to flutter.

The highlight of the show was Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone winning the Best Performance in Leading Role, Male and Female. Although Deepika’s was for ‘Piku’ and Ranveer’s was for ‘Bajirao Mastani’.

Bollywood actors, Shahid Kapoor and Farhan Actor hosted the show, making a grand entry on a donkey, starting IIFA 2016 with a crowd full of laughter. Together with the footballers and flamenco dancers, they gave Madrid a real opening, embracing the culture of Madrid.

IIFA 2016 saw an array of performances from all the hot shots of Bollywood including, Deepika Padukone who transported everyone back to the beauty of Bajirao Mastani. Ranveer was so impressed by this performance that he mentioned it in his speech for Best Actor Award saying: “Girl, you so fine.”

The Woman of the Year award went to Priyanka Chopra who showcased her versatile prowess through singing and dancing in her performance.

The trio, Ranveer, Deepika and Priyanka shared the stage to present the award of Best Director to Sanjay Leela Bhansali for their film, ‘Bajirao Mastani’. Truly a heart-warming moment to see all of them together, on stage.

The talent was reaching the sky when Tiger Shroff entered on stage and gave an energetic performance as a tribute to his idols, Micheal Jackson and Hrithik Roshan who also performed, taking everyone back to the debut years. Sonakshi Sinha also gave an animated tribute to Sridevi.

A number of other performances including Salman Khan, Shilpa Shetty and many more celebrity figures took the audience by storm and beauty, splashing their splendour across the stage.

Amongst the Award winners were also Bhumi Pednekar, Darshan Kumar and Papon and Monali.

Bhumi Pednekar won Best Debutant Female for ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ and gave a small recognition speech on the green carpet: “Thank you so much for giving this much love and support. I hope that I can entertain you guys for the rest of my life.”

Sooraj Pancholi and Athiya Shetty won the award for Best Debutant for ‘Hero’ whilst Deepak Dobriyal won the award for Best Performance in a Comic Role for ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’, and Kabir Khan, Parveez Shaikh and V Vijayendra Prasad received the award for Best Screenplay for ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’.

Darshan Kumar, who won Best Negative Role for ‘NH10’ revealed that he selects the roles he does based on whether the film touches his heart.

Both Papon and Monali Thakur took away Best Playback Singers for ‘Moh Moh Ke Dhaage’ and sang the much-loved song numerous times on the IIFA green carpet.

The International Indian Film Academy Awards 2016 was a huge success and a spectacular end to a busy weekend.
