Adil Ray Appointed OBE

The writer and actor behind BBC sitcom Citizen Khan, Adil Ray has been appointed OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

The 42-year-old Brummie has been acknowledged for his services to broadcasting.

He has been a presented on the BBC Asian Network alongside Citizen Khan, which was initially broadcasted in 2012.

Mr Ray dedicated the honour to his parents for their endless support which allowed him to persue his dreams.

“They, like many immigrant families, came to Britain with dreams of their own and I feel very fortunate that with the help of many supportive people around me I have been able to follow mine.

“At a time when the future of Britain is under discussion and yet again immigration is top of the agenda honours like this remind us that we all have a part to play and have something to contribute to Great Britain.

“Now, if you’ll excuse me I just need to go and explain to Mr Khan why he’s been overlooked.”

The comedian joins a celebrated list of West Midlands people selected for their exceptional effort in the communities they assist.
