{"id":9953,"date":"2011-08-15T16:16:34","date_gmt":"2011-08-15T16:16:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2011\/08\/15\/derby-awaits-south-asia-football-clash\/"},"modified":"2011-08-15T16:16:34","modified_gmt":"2011-08-15T16:16:34","slug":"derby-awaits-south-asia-football-clash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2011\/08\/15\/derby-awaits-south-asia-football-clash\/","title":{"rendered":"Derby awaits South Asia football clash"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Pakistan and India meet on football pitch at Pride Park<\/h3>\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"middle\" width=\"460\" height=\"258\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/Image\/ArticleImages\/PakistanIndiageneric_460x225.jpg\"\/><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><strong\/><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><strong\/><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><strong>SPORT fans are accustomed to seeing Pakistan and India battle it out on the cricket pitch \u2013 but not next month when the two sides meet in a mouth watering clash on the football field in Derby.<\/strong> <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The two long-standing rivals will come to England and Scotland for the first time in a huge boost for British Asian football fans. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Billed as the \u2018Clash of the Titans\u2019, the Asian sub-continent\u2019s most powerful sides will meet on September 3 at Pride Park Stadium, Derby and on September 9 in Glasgow, Scotland.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The match has received backing from high profile members from the sports and entertainment world, including England and Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cI am welcoming the India and Pakistan teams to the home of football,\u201d said Ferdinand.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cThis is a major breakthrough for both nations and I hope to see myself in India and Pakistan soon.\u201d<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nWBA and IBF light-welterweight world champion Amir Khan said the match took on great significance.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cFootball is one of the most popular sports amongst the Asian community in Britain and this match will prove to be very successful because of that,\u201d said Khan.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cI\u2019m sure these matches will also be very beneficial for relations between the two countries because sport plays an important role in helping to unify people. I\u2019m very excited about these games because it\u2019s always thrilling to see two rivals go up against one another.\u201d<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u2018Bend it Like Beckham\u2019 producer and director Gurinder Chadha was excited about the clash.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cI will be shouting Bend it like my Bhaiya&#8217;s, Bhaijans and Bros,\u201d said Chadha, while A1 Grand Prix champion Adam Khan, who is of Pakistani descent added: \u201cIt\u2019s great to see these two nations playing head to head on an international platform \u2013 I can\u2019t wait.\u201d<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nThe respective association presidents have both hailed the match as a crucial step in their respective development.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cPlaying Pakistan is always special. I\u2019m sure all sporting fans are eagerly looking forward to it,\u201d said Praful Patel, president of the All India Football Federation.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nMakhdoom Faisal Saleh Hayat, president of Pakistan Football Federation added: \u201cThis match will definitely go a long way in promoting bilateral relations between the two countries.
