{"id":9923,"date":"2011-05-09T13:07:10","date_gmt":"2011-05-09T13:07:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2011\/05\/09\/khan-takes-award-at-boxing-writers-dinner\/"},"modified":"2011-05-09T13:07:10","modified_gmt":"2011-05-09T13:07:10","slug":"khan-takes-award-at-boxing-writers-dinner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2011\/05\/09\/khan-takes-award-at-boxing-writers-dinner\/","title":{"rendered":"Khan takes award at Boxing Writers dinner"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>British champ gets \u2018Fight of the Year\u2019 accolade<\/h3>\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" hspace=\"10\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"right\" width=\"232\" height=\"209\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/Image\/ArticleImages\/AmirKhanOscar_232x180.jpg\"\/>AMIR Khan was in Las Vegas to pick up the Boxing Writers\u00a0Association of America\u00a0award for 2010 \u2018Fight of the Year\u2019 after his epic battle with Argentine bruiser Marcos Maidana.<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Both Khan and Maidana put on a show that enthralled fight fans last December, with the Bolton ace winning through by a unanimous points decision.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The WBA light-welterweight world champion was joined by his trainer Freddie Roach, who picked up the \u2018Trainer of the Year\u2019 award for a record 5th time, and his promoter Oscar De La Hoya.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Sergio Martinez claimed the \u2018Fighter of the Year\u2019 award after he won the world middleweight title from Kelly Pavlik, then successfully defended it with a sensational one-punch knockout of Paul Williams.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Khan was delighted to be at the dinner and win his award: \u201cIt was a great battle between two warriors and I\u2019m sure it will go down as one of my defining fights. I knew Maidana would be a very tough opponent but in the end I managed to see him off and claim the victory.
