{"id":9891,"date":"2010-08-09T13:24:29","date_gmt":"2010-08-09T13:24:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2010\/08\/09\/england-captain-appeals-for-flood-victims\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T16:48:24","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T16:48:24","slug":"england-captain-appeals-for-flood-victims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2010\/08\/09\/england-captain-appeals-for-flood-victims\/","title":{"rendered":"England captain appeals for flood victims"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>\u2018Our thoughts are with the Pakistani people\u2019, says Andrew Strauss<\/h3>\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" hspace=\"10\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"right\" width=\"232\" height=\"235\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/StraussPakAppeal_232x180.jpg\"\/>ENGLAND captain Andrew Strauss has called on fans to give generously as Pakistan struggles to cope with its worst floods for 80 years.<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>More than 1,400 people are estimated to have died in the disaster and, millions more have been badly affected.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>England and Pakistan players have put traditional rivalries aside ahead of the second Test at Edgbaston to help raise money for those affected.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Strauss said: \u201cAlthough we hope to win the second Test match, our thoughts are with the Pakistani team and the millions of people devastated by the floods.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cThe best way to support the relief effort in Pakistan is to give money to the DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee) Pakistan floods appeal. We have organised a collection at Edgbaston, and I urge you to pick up the phone or go online and donate.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Salman Butt, the Pakistan skipper, added: \u201cMillions of people have been affected by the severe flooding in Pakistan, including the family and friends of members of the Pakistan team currently here in the UK.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cPlease give generously and support the DEC Appeal to help those whose lives have been washed away.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>British Red Cross volunteers will be collecting funds during the first three days of the Edgbaston Test, which starts tomorrow.
