{"id":9783,"date":"2009-10-19T15:57:17","date_gmt":"2009-10-19T15:57:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2009\/10\/19\/pcb-rejects-younus-resignation\/"},"modified":"2009-10-19T15:57:17","modified_gmt":"2009-10-19T15:57:17","slug":"pcb-rejects-younus-resignation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2009\/10\/19\/pcb-rejects-younus-resignation\/","title":{"rendered":"PCB rejects Younus resignation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>\u2018He will continue as captain until the World Cup in 2011\u2019, says PCB chief<\/h3>\n<div><strong>THE PAKISTAN Cricket Board has reportedly rejected Younus Khan\u2019s resignation.<\/strong> <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The 31-year-old quit as captain last week following match-fixing allegations levied against the team at the recent Champions Trophy in South Africa. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>But after meeting in Islamabad, the PCB said they had no justification to replace him as captain. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cHe will continue as captain until the World Cup in 2011, if he stays fit,\u201d PCB chairman Ijaz Butt was quoted as saying in the Dawn newspaper.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>He added there was no reason to accept Younus\u2019 resignation following a successful period for Pakistan which saw them crowned Twenty20 World Champions, beat close rivals India and make it to the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cWith so many performances this year do you think he should be changed?\u2019 Butt asked reporters.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Revealing reasons why he tendered his resignation last week, Younus said he had been \u201cdeeply hurt\u201d by match-fixing allegations that alleged the team had deliberately lost a group game against Australia which helped knock rivals India out of the Champions Trophy tournament, as well as throwing their semi-final match against New Zealand. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cEver since we returned from South Africa, I was hiding from people as if I have committed a crime,\u201d Younus said at the time. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cIt was painful because I played my cricket for pride, for my country and not for money. It was the limit and being an honourable Pathan (Pashtun), I felt I must resign. It&#8217;s not an emotional decision.
