{"id":9681,"date":"2009-02-06T12:45:08","date_gmt":"2009-02-06T12:45:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2009\/02\/06\/anger-as-pakistan-players-are-thrown-out-of-ipl\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T16:40:06","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T16:40:06","slug":"anger-as-pakistan-players-are-thrown-out-of-ipl","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2009\/02\/06\/anger-as-pakistan-players-are-thrown-out-of-ipl\/","title":{"rendered":"Anger as Pakistan players are thrown out of IPL"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Pakistan Cricket Board refuse players permission to play in IPL<\/h3>\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"265\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"10\" width=\"180\" align=\"right\" vspace=\"3\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/02\/ShoaibAkhtarIPL_180x232.jpg\"\/>A HOST of Pakistani players will not feature in the forthcoming IPL season after their cricket board refused to clear them for the lucrative league.<\/strong> <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>New Pakistan captain Younis Khan was one of 10 players expected to join up with team mates ahead of the start of the new season in April.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>But his contract \u2013 along with that of Shoaib Malik, Shoaib Akhtar, Shahid Afridi, Salman Butt and Mohammad Hafeez &#8211; was sensationally terminated by IPL chiefs today. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>There was better news for four other players &#8211; Sohail Tanvir, Kamran Akmal, Umar Gul and Misbah-ul Haq \u2013 who had their contracts suspended meaning they could well return for the tournament next year. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>With relations between Pakistan and India at an all-time low, the PCB announced last week it would not allow its players to travel to India for the IPL for \u2018security\u2019 reasons.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Sports minister Aftab Jilani said the final decision was down to the Pakistan government and would not be drawn on the possibility its stance was a result of India refusing to tour Pakistan earlier this year. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>IPL boss Lalit Modi said the decision to terminate or suspend contracts was down to the team franchise. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;By deciding not to take part this year, these players have gone against the rules of the IPL,&#8221; tournament boss Lalit Modi told reporters. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;A player can pull out only if he is injured or has an international Test or one-day commitment.
