{"id":9608,"date":"2008-07-14T17:41:28","date_gmt":"2008-07-14T17:41:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2008\/07\/14\/asif-embroiled-in-new-ipl-dope-scandal\/"},"modified":"2008-07-14T17:41:28","modified_gmt":"2008-07-14T17:41:28","slug":"asif-embroiled-in-new-ipl-dope-scandal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2008\/07\/14\/asif-embroiled-in-new-ipl-dope-scandal\/","title":{"rendered":"Asif embroiled in new IPL dope scandal"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Player \u2018shocked\u2019 at new accusations<\/h3>\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"277\" alt=\"\" hspace=\"10\" width=\"180\" align=\"right\" vspace=\"3\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/Image\/ArticleImages\/MohammedAsif_180x232.jpg\"\/>PAKISTAN bowler Mohammad Asif is embroiled in yet another doping scandal after it was revealed he failed a random drugs test during the Indian Premier League.<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The 25-year-old, who played from the Delhi Daredevils during the tournament, was released from a Dubai detention centre only last month after he was accused of possession of a banned substance. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>In a statement released to the media the IPL said: &#8220;The Indian Premier League confirms the player in violation is Mohammad Asif. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;It was also checked if Mr Mohammad Asif had applied for and was granted a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE). It was found that Mr Mohammad Asif had not applied for a TUE. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;A note in writing has been sent to the player and his home board and to the franchisee on the findings.&#8221; <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Asif had hoped to be included in Pakistan\u2019s Champions Trophy team set to held in Pakistan this September. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>But that now seems uncertain with the Pakistan Cricket Board confirming Asif may have to explain the latest accusations to an internal anti-doping tribunal. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The player himself however said he was \u201cshocked\u201d at the IPL findings.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;I am shocked and surprised because I was extra cautious and never used any banned substances,&#8221; Asif told <em>AFP<\/em>. &#8220;I don&#8217;t know what to do. I will decide the next course of action only after consultation with the PCB.&#8221;<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Asif will now decide whether to request that his \u2018B\u2019 sample be sent away for testing. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>If that returns positive the case will be handed to the IPL&#8217;s three-man drugs tribunal which includes former player Sunil Gavaskar. \u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>In 2006 Asif was banned for one year after testing positive for the banned substance Nandrolone.
