{"id":9606,"date":"2008-06-30T15:29:04","date_gmt":"2008-06-30T15:29:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2008\/06\/30\/shoaib-launches-second-ban-appeal\/"},"modified":"2008-06-30T15:29:04","modified_gmt":"2008-06-30T15:29:04","slug":"shoaib-launches-second-ban-appeal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2008\/06\/30\/shoaib-launches-second-ban-appeal\/","title":{"rendered":"Shoaib launches second ban appeal"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Entire ban to be contested, says legal rep<\/h3>\n<div><strong>SHOAIB Akhtar has appealed for the second time against his five year ban despite it being reduced to 18 months.<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The Pakistan fast bowler is seeking to overturn the initial ban imposed on him by the Pakistan Cricket Board at the Lahore High Court after he filed a petition. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The bowler, who had the term reduced to 18 months by a tribunal, still feels the initial ban was unjustified.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0&#8220;I want to play for Pakistan as soon as possible,&#8221; Shoaib told PTI. &#8220;I was disappointed with the tribunal&#8217;s decision on my appeal.&#8221; <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Abid Hasan Minto, Shoaib&#8217;s legal counsel, described the initial ban as \u201cillegal and unjustified\u201d, adding, &#8220;We believe he is being prevented from playing cricket for his country by an illegal decision of the board. The ban itself is very harsh. We are contesting the entire ban.&#8221; <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Nasim Ashraf, the Pakistan board chairman said Shoaib\u2019s only avenue now was through the courts. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cI can&#8217;t overturn the reduced ban on him.
