{"id":9597,"date":"2008-05-07T16:08:35","date_gmt":"2008-05-07T16:08:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2008\/05\/07\/kickboxing-kings-to-light-up-birmingham\/"},"modified":"2008-05-07T16:08:35","modified_gmt":"2008-05-07T16:08:35","slug":"kickboxing-kings-to-light-up-birmingham","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2008\/05\/07\/kickboxing-kings-to-light-up-birmingham\/","title":{"rendered":"Kickboxing Kings to light up Birmingham"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Triple title bonanza in showpiece event<\/h3>\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"224\" hspace=\"10\" width=\"232\" align=\"right\" vspace=\"3\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/Image\/ArticleImages\/KashtheflashGill232x180.jpg\"\/>KASH \u2018The Flash\u2019 Gill is one of Birmingham\u2019s most well known kickboxing stars.<\/strong> <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Having carved himself out a career in the sport from an early age he was champion at the age of 21 \u2013 a winning belief he has instilled in the hundreds of young aspiring kickboxers who visit his city gym on a weekly basis. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Today Kash has become a solid and positive influence to other kids from less fortunate backgrounds like himself who strive to make something of themselves. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cWhen I was young all I wanted to do was become the champion of the world and for people to know I was the best fighter out there\u201d, Kash reveals.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cNow that I\u2019m older and wiser [Kash grins] I really feel like I want to pass on my knowledge and help others to achieve their full potential.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Kash is also a front runner in promoting the sport across the country and next month for the first time he will present a star-studded night of excitement and entertainment at Birmingham\u2019s popular night spot \u2018The Q Club\u2019 as fighters gear up for a marathon event in which three world title\u2019s will be up for grabs. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Two of Kash\u2019s prot\u00e9g\u00e9s have taken Kash\u2019s winning mentality to heart and will feature in the showpiece next month. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Two times world champion already, Sunny \u2018The Hitman\u2019 Hira, will make a bid to become the undisputed world champion.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Having started training with Kash at the young age of ten, Sunny has been one of \u2018The Flash\u2019s\u2019 most loyal students. A solid grounding in the basic techniques of the sport has given Sunny the foundation to become one of today\u2019s most skilful and dangerous fighters. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"224\" hspace=\"10\" width=\"232\" align=\"right\" vspace=\"3\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/Image\/ArticleImages\/SunnyHiraSimonAkufo232x180.jpg\"\/>Birmingham\u2019s very own \u2018Hitman\u2019 will now challenge for his third world title in less than 2 years. This is heralded by many as his most significant fight to date. His opponent, undefeated Latvian, Aleksandra Alajevs is well known as a brutal puncher with relentless intent. Sunny, however seems to take it all in his stride. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cAfter 15 years of hard work and dedication it\u2019s all finally starting to pay off\u201d, Sunny said. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cTo become two times world champion was more than I ever dared hope for but to have a chance to become the undisputed featherweight champion of the world &#8211; it\u2019s a dream come true.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Kash\u2019s second prot\u00e9g\u00e9 is European welterweight champion, Simon \u2018Mr K.O.\u2019 Akufo who will take a step up in class when he challenges for his first world title. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Simon joined the flash fold a lot later than most, and after an extremely tough losing pro debut at the age of 21, Simon went on to dedicate himself to the sport in a way that few ever have. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>He is now considered one of the hardest working fighters in the world today, making him one of the fittest as a result. Often running as much as 350 miles in training for each fight he is no stranger to the gym and his hardcore attitude has earned him the nickname of \u2018The Machine\u2019 amongst his peers.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u2018Mr K.O.\u2019 will now move up a level and onto the world stage at the June 8 super show, when he challenges reigning, defending world champion, Jason Vassallo over 12 two minute rounds.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cJason is a top ranked fighter around the globe, and to have the opportunity to take his world title and world ranking is too good to miss\u201d, Simon said. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cThe WKA title is one of the most prestigious and I am grateful to Kash for getting me a shot like this. \u201cIt will go a long way towards proving my belief that I am the best welterweight in the world.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>For Kash, the goal isn\u2019t just about winning. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cThese guys are just another example of how a strong sense of direction and a positive role model like myself, can help kids from bad neighbourhoods to achieve so much more.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><strong>To find your nearest ticket retailer for the June 8 event please call Kash on 07973 421 690. <\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><strong>Sponsorship opportunities are still available for this event.
