{"id":9308,"date":"2015-06-29T11:03:49","date_gmt":"2015-06-29T11:03:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2015\/06\/29\/glorious-opening-night\/"},"modified":"2015-06-29T11:03:49","modified_gmt":"2015-06-29T11:03:49","slug":"glorious-opening-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2015\/06\/29\/glorious-opening-night\/","title":{"rendered":"Glorious Opening Night"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Bend It Like Beckham: The Musical<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"1\" hspace=\"3\" vspace=\"10\" align=\"middle\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/Image\/ArticleImages\/BILB%20Musical-458x191.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p><font size=\"2\">The critically acclaimed five star West End production, Bend It Like Beckham: The Musical,opened to a packed house last night at London\u2019s Phoenix Theatre Amongst the audience were familiar faces including Omid Djalili, Naughty boy, Madhu &amp; Sulaiman from Signature, Anita Anand, Nihal, Adil Ray, Vanessa Feltz, Graham Norton, Juliet Stevenson, Lily Collins, Indira Verma and<strong> <\/strong>Manish Bhasin. <\/font><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">\u00a0<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">Adapted by Gurinder Chadha and Paul Mayeda Berges<strong> <\/strong>from the 2002 smash hit film of the same name, Bend it Like Beckham: The Musical follows Jess, a talented young football player torn between following in the footsteps of her hero David Beckham, or living up to family expectations of university, career and marriage. <\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n<span style=\"FONT-WEIGHT: bold\"><span class=\"blackTextSmall\"><span style=\"FONT-WEIGHT: bold\"><span>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">\u00a0<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">The diverse and talented cast of the musical includes Natalie Dew<strong> <\/strong>as football crazy Jess with Lauren Samuels as Jules, a player with the Harriers, a local women\u2019s football team, and Jamie Campbell Bower<strong> <\/strong>as their coach Joe. Sophie-Louise Dann plays Paula, Jules\u2019s Mum, with Jamal Andr\u00e9as<strong> <\/strong>as Jess\u2019 good friend Tony.\u00a0 Preeya Kalidas plays Pinky, Jess\u2019 sister, with Tony Jayawardena and Natasha Jayetileke as Jess\u2019 parents, Mr and Mrs Bhamra.<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">\u00a0<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">Speaking on the musical\u2019s mass appeal director Gurinder Chadha said: \u2018At its core Bend It like Beckham is a story about finding your place in the world whilst remaining true to yourself and those you love. I think that is something that crosses any and all cultural and racial lines.\u201d<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">\u00a0<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">Bend it like Beckham now playing at the Phoenix Theatre<strong>,<\/strong> taking bookings until October 2015.<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><span\/><\/span><span><font size=\"2\">Scored by Howard Goodall <em>(Love Story, The Hired Man)<\/em> with the collaboration of pioneer of the British Bhangra sound, composer and performer Kuljit Bhamra and lyrics by Charles Hart <em>(Phantom of the Opera, Aspects of Love, Love Never Dies)<\/em>, the music of Bend It Like Beckham is an East-West fusion of Bhangra and soaring joyous melodies.
