Irrfan Khan, the star of the romance film\u00a0The Lunchbox,\u00a0<\/em>edged out hot favorite Tony Leung from\u00a0The Grandmaster.\u00a0<\/em>The highly acclaimed Bollywood actor, who has starred in\u00a0The Life of Pi<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Slumdog Millionaire,<\/em>\u00a0was \u201chonoured and delighted to have been nominated with such great actors\u201d.<\/div>\n

Wong Kar-wai\u2019s martial arts epic\u00a0The Grandmaster<\/em>\u00a0received Oscar nods at the 86th<\/sup>\u00a0Academy Awards and had the biggest crop of nominations at the 8th<\/sup>Asian Film Awards. It stars some of the greatest names in contemporary Asian cinema, including Zhang Ziyi, the leading actress in\u00a0Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Memoirs of a Geisha<\/em>.<\/div>\n

The annual Asian Film Awards was established in 2007 as the first awards to recognize cinematic talents across Asia. The only awards ceremony in the world that brings together the region\u2019s cinematic elites, the AFA has garnered well-deserved attention from both industry professionals and movie fans alike.<\/div>\n

This year’s Asian Film Awards spanned 12 industry experts on the jury, 73 nominations, 26 films, and 14 award categories from 13 countries. The awards were\u00a0jointly organised by the powerhouses of Asian cinema, comprising of the AFA Academy and its constituent partners \u2013 Busan International Film Festival, Hong Kong Film Festival Society and Tokyo International Film Festival.<\/div>\n
