{"id":8939,"date":"2011-05-12T16:10:24","date_gmt":"2011-05-12T16:10:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2011\/05\/12\/going-for-music-gold\/"},"modified":"2011-05-12T16:10:24","modified_gmt":"2011-05-12T16:10:24","slug":"going-for-music-gold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2011\/05\/12\/going-for-music-gold\/","title":{"rendered":"Going for Music Gold!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Brit Asian singer Shahid Khan goes from \u2018Goldie\u2019s Band\u2019 to debut album<\/h3>\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"middle\" width=\"460\" height=\"258\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/Image\/ArticleImages\/ShahidKhan_460x225.jpg\"\/><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><strong\/><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><strong\/><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><strong>NOT many singers can boast of an audience with royalty \u2013 unless you\u2019re Shahid Khan!<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The 24-year-old Brit Asian music sensation was part of the BBC series Goldie\u2019s Band-\u2018By Royal Appointment\u2019 in which he performed for Prince Harry at Buckingham Palace. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The show made Londoner Shahid an overnight sensation and now he\u2019s ready to conquer the British Asian music scene with his debut eight-track album \u2018Heartfelt\u2019.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The first release, \u2018Oh Kuri\u2019 is a Bhangra Latina inspired track, co-produced by the acclaimed salsa producer Alex Wilson.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The album also features a Bollywood remix of the legendary song \u2018Ain\u2019t No Sunshine\u2019 by Bill Withers.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>British Bhangra pioneer Kuljit Bhamra MBE believes Shahid \u2013 who also plays the harmonium and tabla &#8211; represents a \u201cnew breed of \u201cBritish Asian singers. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>It was Kuljit himself who first spotted Southall-based Shahid in a local Asian Star search Talent competition over eight years ago.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Kuljit, who has worked with \u2018My Hips Don\u2019t Lie\u2019 Columbian singer Shakira and British girl band Sugababes, recognised Shahid\u2019s talent from an early age and has since gone on to mentor Shahid and produce his debut album.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cShahid Khan is one of the UK\u2019s hottest new talents and is most importantly offering something different and undeniably unique to listeners,\u201d Kuljit says. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cHe represents a new breed of a young classic singer voice whose sound is closest to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Adnan Sami. It is great that we have a new British Asian sound that appeals to first and second generation Asian communities as well as mainstream audiences.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Kuljit may have seen the sparkle in Shahid all those years ago, but for the rest of us it was the recent BBC show \u2018Goldie\u2019s Band-\u2018By Royal Appointment\u2019 that brought Shahid to the fore. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The programme followed electronic music artist Goldie on a mission to discover young people whose talent and passion for music was at the centre of their lives. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>After a nationwide search, twelve young musicians were mentored by a team of industry experts including composer Guy Chambers, jazz artist Soweto Kinch and singer songwriter Cerys Matthews. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Shahid was one of 12 selected to perform in front of Prince Harry at Buckingham Palace.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cWorking with Goldie was an amazing and surreal experience,\u201d Shahid says.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cHis influence and knowledge really helped me and working with other artists has been such a great collaborative experience. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cTalent Competitions have always been a great way for me to get recognised and I was honoured when I was selected to perform in front of His Royal Highness Prince Harry at Buckingham Palace.
