{"id":8585,"date":"2008-09-25T15:22:56","date_gmt":"2008-09-25T15:22:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2008\/09\/25\/award-honour-for-brit-crime-thriller\/"},"modified":"2008-09-25T15:22:56","modified_gmt":"2008-09-25T15:22:56","slug":"award-honour-for-brit-crime-thriller","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2008\/09\/25\/award-honour-for-brit-crime-thriller\/","title":{"rendered":"Award honour for Brit crime thriller"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Cash and Curry wins at Portobello Film Festival<\/h3>\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"311\" hspace=\"10\" width=\"180\" align=\"right\" vspace=\"3\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/Image\/ArticleImages\/Cash&amp;Curry_180x232.jpg\"\/>A BRITISH crime thriller starring a host of Asian faces has scooped the Special Audience Award for Best Feature Film at the Portobello Film Festival 2008.<\/strong> <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Cash and Curry, directed by Sarjit Bains scooped the prize following its world premier screening at Westbourne Studios in front of a packed audience. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Sitting amongst the audience was Hollywood actor Joseph Fiennes who threw his support behind the film. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;It was a pleasure to come along and lend my support,\u201d he said. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cFilms like Cash and Curry which have been made on a small budget and are keeping the British film industry alive&#8221;.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Cash and Curry was made for a modest \u00a330,000 but attracted a host of star names including ex-Eastender\u2019s Ameet Chana, Pooja Shah and Ronny Jhutti. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Despite the film having yet to find a distributor, Portobello Film Festival director\u00a0Jonathan Barnett said he amazed at the reaction of the audience watching the film.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>&#8220;I have seen nothing like it really. The cinema holds 200 people comfortably but on the night of the premiere we had over 500 people trying to get in,\u201d he said.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cIt was a crime film but it had some very funny moments too. I hope the film gets a distributor because the audience loved it and the cast and crew deserve it&#8221;.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Director Sarjit Bains said: &#8220;I am absolutely delighted that the film has been given the seal of approval not only by such a prestigious film festival but also by the audience.
