Eight-year-old Gets Early Christmas Present <\/h3>\n

Primary school pupil Tuaib Hussain now has every reason to enjoy doing his homework.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n


\nFor the visually impaired Birmingham youngster has been provided with a special magnifier which enables him to see his schoolwork much more clearly.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n


\nEight-year-old Tuaib, a pupil at Barford Primary School in Ladywood, Birmingham, was diagnosed with ocular albinism, a genetic condition that reduces the pigmentation of the iris, two years ago.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n


\nBut, following contact with Focus Birmingham, Tuaib, who lives in Edgbaston, Birmingham, with his parents and three sisters, has been presented with an I-Loview portable electronic magnifier.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n


\nThe recently developed device, which has a seven inch screen, enables Tuaib to see normal sized print by significantly enlarging it.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n


\nHis mother, Hamida Begum, said: “Tuaib really likes his magnifier and it has already made a big difference to him.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n


\n“He says it is brilliant and he can now see things on it which means he is able to do his homework using the magnifier.”<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n


\nMrs Begum, whose three daughters are aged between two and 11, said Tuaib was diagnosed with ocular albinism at Birmingham Children’s Hospital after they noticed problems with his sight.<\/div>\n

\nShe added: “He couldn’t follow movement with his eyes and wasn’t noticing things as he should. He was also having problems picking up toys, but we had no idea what it was.”<\/div>\n

\nMrs Begum’s youngest daughter, Tanisha, has also been left partially sighted due to the same condition.

\nTuaib was presented with the portable magnifier following his initial assessment at Focus in October.<\/div>\n

His mother said: “Focus have been really good, and we are so grateful that Birmingham City Council put us in touch with them.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

“His eyesight has now stopped where it is, which means he cannot see very much from the left eye.”<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n


\nGaynor Tromans, Clinic Manager at the Focus Birmingham Low Vision Centre, said Tuaib will be able to use the I-Loview magnifier at home, at school, and even when he is out and about.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n


\nAs well as a seven inch screen, the device has full HD level image quality, continuous auto focus zoom, and technology developed by professional video engineers from Samsung.<\/div>\n
