{"id":7653,"date":"2015-08-14T14:47:19","date_gmt":"2015-08-14T14:47:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2015\/08\/14\/lives-not-knives-2\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T14:31:01","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T14:31:01","slug":"lives-not-knives-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2015\/08\/14\/lives-not-knives-2\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cLives Not Knives\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Knife Surrender Bin Launched at Green Lane Masjid <\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"1\" hspace=\"3\" alt=\"\" vspace=\"10\" align=\"middle\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/save-a-life-467x184.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nFollowing the continued development of the Communities Working Together initiative and the launch of a New Knife Surrender Bin in Handsworth, a further New Knife Surrender Bin has been unveiled.\u00a0\u00a0The bin, outside Small Heath\u2019s Green Lane Masjid marks a total of 9 in Birmingham and 11 in the West Midlands to date. <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nCommunity Activist Desmond Jaddoo of Birmingham Empowerment Forum who arranged for the new Knife Surrender Bin says: \u201cThis is just continuing the \u201cLive not Knives\u201d initiative with all communities working together and taking responsibility for making our streets safer for our neighbours, families especially our children in the ever changing face of Birmingham.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nAmer Ijaz Centre Manager said,\u00a0\u201cGreen Lane Masjid and Community Centre believes that it is for each of us to take responsibility for the society in which we live.\u00a0 It is with this in mind that we have joined forces with the Birmingham Empowerment Forum on the Live not Knives project.\u00a0 This initiative will empower individuals and groups to break out of a cycle of violent crime by joining this knife surrender in a trusted location.\u00a0 God willing, such initiatives will pave the way for a new start for those previously involved in crime and will make our communities a safer place for everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nDeputy Police &amp; Crime Commissioner Yvonne Mosquito added,\u00a0\u201cOne life taken by the use of a knife is one life too many.\u00a0This is a community-led project in which local people have taken a big step to get knives off our streets.\u00a0For this knife surrender campaign to succeed we all need to encourage the whole community to get behind it and once and for all say no to violence.\u00a0I fully support this initiative and\u00a0would like to thank all those who have worked so hard to bring this about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nDetective Inspector Nick Dale, West Midlands Police\u2019s lead for knife crime, concluded, \u201cKnife crime continues to fall in the West Midlands despite a slight increase nationally. However, people\u2019s lives are still affected by knife crime every day so we cannot afford to be complacent.
