{"id":7443,"date":"2015-04-09T10:35:59","date_gmt":"2015-04-09T10:35:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2015\/04\/09\/unauthorised-mosque-under-fire\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T14:23:30","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T14:23:30","slug":"unauthorised-mosque-under-fire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2015\/04\/09\/unauthorised-mosque-under-fire\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cUnauthorised\u201d Mosque Under Fire"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Solihull Community Hub Investigated For Breaking Terms of Planning Consent<\/h3>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"10\" hspace=\"3\" border=\"1\" align=\"middle\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/solihull-community-hub-467x184.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nA local community centre is under fire following allegations that it has been turned into a mosque without permission.&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Solihull&#8217;s Community Hub, based on Hermitage Road, opened its doors as a conference and training centre last April but is now under investigation from Solihull Council due to allegations that it has broken the terms of planning consent.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>A man residing near the Hub site said he had called police to inform them that approximately 300 people had attended the conference and training centre on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt 9pm there were cars parked all over Hermitage Road,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA neighbour said it had been going on since 6pm.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cPeople were throwing abuse back and forth.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI called the police because I felt intimidated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>An online petition calling for the Community Hub to be shut down has been signed by over 1,000 people.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>The petition&#8217;s states: \u201cSolihull\u2019s residents have not been consulted or informed of plans to turn the old ambulance station on Hermitage Road in to a \u2018masjid\u2019, otherwise known as a mosque.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been put forward as Solihull Community Hub and the planning application stated it would be a conference and training centre.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is not acceptable for this to have happened without the residents of Solihull being given the chance to have their say.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Dr Issam Ghannam, a Solihull Imam, said that Muslims from the area had to travel into Birmingham to visit a mosque and practice their faith.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cThere are 20,000 Muslims in Solihull and we haven\u2019t got a mosque here, it\u2019s how the regulations of the council are.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cYou need a lot of money and access for cars.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Andy Jones, who had signed the petition, criticised some of the comments posted on the document as \u201cbordering on racism\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cThis is not a point about race, it\u2019s about the fact that this building is being used for something that was not detailed in the planning application.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA true community centre would be beneficial for the area, if it is inclusive to the entire community regardless of faith, orientation or belief.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#13;\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Solihull Community Hub Investigated For Breaking Terms of Planning Consent &#13;
