{"id":7152,"date":"2015-01-12T12:01:24","date_gmt":"2015-01-12T12:01:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2015\/01\/12\/protecting-the-youth\/"},"modified":"2015-01-12T12:01:24","modified_gmt":"2015-01-12T12:01:24","slug":"protecting-the-youth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2015\/01\/12\/protecting-the-youth\/","title":{"rendered":"Protecting the Youth"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Police Drugs Team Honoured By Community Group <\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"467\" vspace=\"10\" hspace=\"3\" height=\"184\" border=\"1\" align=\"middle\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/Image\/Gallery\/cannabis-467x184.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nA police team has been honoured by a Birmingham community group for its work in helping steer young people away from drugs.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nThe West Midlands Police Cannabis Disposal Team was presented with an award from Balsall Heath-based As Siraat to acknowledge the work of officers in educating youngsters about the perils of drugs.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nThe presentation was made during As Siraat\u2019s annual \u2018Salah and Drugs Awareness Programme\u2019, a three-day spiritual and activity retreat which involved presentations, workshops and a range of team-bonding exercises\u00a0 from archery and climbing to abseiling and football.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nNearly 40 youngsters aged 12 to 17 took part in the retreat. As part of the event, Mike Hall, manager of the Handsworth-based Cannabis Disposal Team, and his colleague Mohammed Azam gave presentations and were presented with an engraved glass award.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nA spokesman for As Siraat, a Muslim educational and faith-based organisation, said, \u201cIn today\u2019s society it\u2019s very important that young people are familiar with the dangers of drugs and feel comfortable going through the correct channels if they have any drug-related issues. <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cWe believe that prevention is the best cure and we wanted to acknowledge the positive and significant contribution that the police team has made towards that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nAccepting the award, Mike Hall said, &#8220;It\u2019s an honour to be invited once, but to be invited twice is genuinely fantastic and it makes us feel very much appreciated, thank you very much.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cWe\u2019re delighted to continue working with As Siraat on this.
