{"id":7125,"date":"2014-12-10T15:03:04","date_gmt":"2014-12-10T15:03:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2014\/12\/10\/budget-cuts-for-birmingham\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T14:14:28","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T14:14:28","slug":"budget-cuts-for-birmingham","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2014\/12\/10\/budget-cuts-for-birmingham\/","title":{"rendered":"Budget Cuts For Birmingham"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>\u00a3150 million expected to be cut, leaving thousands of jobs on the line<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"467\" vspace=\"10\" hspace=\"3\" height=\"184\" border=\"1\" align=\"middle\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/birmingham-council-budget-slashed-467x184.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Chief Executive of \t\t\tBirmingham City Council, Mark Rogers, has urged staff to stay \t\t\tstrong in their &#8216;week of woe&#8217; in which the council has received \t\t\tmuch bad news, from thousands of potential staff redundancies, a \t\t\thighly critical Ofsted Report and a damning review from the \t\t\tKerslake Report.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div dir=\"LTR\" id=\"page\">&#13;<\/p>\n<div dir=\"LTR\" id=\"row1\">&#13;<\/p>\n<div dir=\"LTR\" id=\"row2\">&#13;<\/p>\n<p>Huge cuts are feared \t\t\tto be made to numerous Birmingham City Councils with the authority \t\t\texpecting \u00a3150 million to be slashed from its budget in the \t\t\t2015\/16 budget proposals, which are to be unveiled by the leader \t\t\tof Birmingham City Council, Sir Albert Bore, today.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>In its damning \t\t\treport, the Kerslake criticised the city council for blaming its \t\t\tfailings on the central government and recommended that the \t\t\tcouncil should face an overhaul in how it operates, specifically \t\t\tin relieving 20 councillors of their roles as well as reducing \t\t\telections to one in four years. \t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>The expected cuts \t\t\twill have a detrimental impact on parks, libraries, refuse \t\t\tcollection and street cleaning, and Chief Executive Mark Rogers \t\t\thas also warned staff that thousands of jobs are also on the line. \t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>In his appeal to \t\t\tstaff, Chief Executive Mark Rogers said, \u201cThese are, indeed, \t\t\ttough and testing times for the city council\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cI look \t\t\tforward to working with you all and rising to the challenges ahead \t\t\tand showing our citizens \u2013 as well as the Government \u2013 exactly \t\t\twhat we\u2019re capable of.
