{"id":6941,"date":"2014-10-15T15:29:34","date_gmt":"2014-10-15T15:29:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2014\/10\/15\/revenge-attack-on-teenager\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T13:57:58","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T13:57:58","slug":"revenge-attack-on-teenager","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2014\/10\/15\/revenge-attack-on-teenager\/","title":{"rendered":"Revenge Attack on Teenager"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>The Teenager Had Tried To Escape An Arranged Marriage By Eloping with Her Lover<\/h3>\n<p>A teenager, who tried to escape an arranged marriage by eloping with her lover, had her throat cut by the man she was betrothed to. 17-year-old Darshana Narotam along with her 22-year-old boyfriend Prashant Govinde and an accompanying 15 year old, were all injured in the violent attack.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nThe attacker, 26-year-old Bharat Soma, also stabbed Govinde in the neck and slashed his cheek in front of shocked onlookers.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nSoma, who denies attempted murder, reportedly shouted, \u201cMy wife, my wife!\u201d as he carried out the knife attack.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nDuring the incident the officer asked, \u201cWho\u2019s done this to you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nNarotam replied, \u201cHim, him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nThe officer replied, \u201cIs it the chap in the (police) car?<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cMy mum and dad trying to force me to marry with that guy, but I haven\u2019t married with him.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nAn officer asked, \u201cSo a forced marriage with that guy that\u2019s attacked you?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cYeah,\u201d she replied.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nNarotam\u2019s mother Parvati Natu and father Narotam Deugi were visibly tearful upon watching the harrowing video, the judge even asked the mother if she wished to be escorted out of the courtroom.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nBoth parents however are accused of assaulting and falsely imprisoning their daughter in her bedroom weeks before the wedding, to prevent her from seeing her boyfriend.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nThey were persistent in having her marry Soma and not Govinde whom she had been secretly dating from the age of 15. The parents denied these accusations.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nPrashant, giving evidence at Leicester Crown Court from behind a screen, recounted the bloody event.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cI heard a scream.I saw Darshana was being held by the neck by someone.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cI tried to pull him from behind and then I was on the floor and holding that person on the ground.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cHe was struggling as I was trying to hold him down.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cI saw Darshana was bleeding and I was shocked.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cI didn\u2019t realise he\u2019d harmed me.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cI saw a knife in his hand and told Darshana \u2018he\u2019s holding a knife, take it away or it will harm us more.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cHe was moving the knife haphazardly and I realised he had come to kill us.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cI was shouting \u2018please somebody call the police.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cDarshana took the knife and threw it; it was right next to us.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cI thought if he had this knife again he\u2019d try to hurt us again.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cI did my best to protect Darshana and (the 15-year-old boy) and held him down.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cI wanted to see his face. I was trying to uncover his face.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nProsecutor Adrienne Lucking asked Prashant, \u201cWhen did you realise you were injured.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nHe replied, \u201cWhen the police arrived.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nPrashant said the assailant was \u201cscreaming and swearing\u201d whilst Darshana was crying.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nNarotam\u2019s three uncles and cousin have also been apprehended for reportedly kidnapping Govinde\u2019s father, in an attempt to find the whereabouts of Narotam who fled with her boyfriend from Wembley to Leicester.
