{"id":6838,"date":"2014-08-18T17:05:27","date_gmt":"2014-08-18T17:05:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2014\/08\/18\/guest-of-honour-at-iab-annual-dinner-announced\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T13:55:47","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T13:55:47","slug":"guest-of-honour-at-iab-annual-dinner-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2014\/08\/18\/guest-of-honour-at-iab-annual-dinner-announced\/","title":{"rendered":"Guest of Honour at IAB Annual Dinner Announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Hussein Lalani co-founder of 99p Stores is guest of honour at IAB annual dinner<\/h3>\n<div><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"1\" hspace=\"3\" vspace=\"10\" align=\"middle\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/IABA99pStoreGoH-467x184.jpg\"\/><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div\/>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The guest speaker at this year\u2019s Institute of Asian Businesses annual dinner and awards is one of Britain\u2019s leading entrepreneurs, Hussein Lalani.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nMr Lalani is a co-founder of 99p Stores, which has just opened its 250th store in the UK, in its home town of Northampton, and is on course to record a turnover of \u00a3500m this year.&#13;<\/p>\n<div\/>&#13;<br \/>\n<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n99p Stores was set up by Nadir Lalani and his two sons, Hussein and Faisal, in 2001.&#13;<\/p>\n<div\/>&#13;<br \/>\n<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nThe Lalanis have retailing in their blood &#8211; Nadir Lalani first came to Britain in 1973, from Tanzania, where he owned a wholesale business and general store. In the UK, he established and sold two convenience store chains, before moving into discount retailing with his two sons.&#13;<\/p>\n<div\/>&#13;<br \/>\n<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nThe first 99p Store was in Holloway, with three others opening in the same year, and it was the collapse of Woolworths six years ago that helped the family accelerate the growth of their business. The family took over 80 former Woolworths stores, which was a massive expansion of the firm.&#13;<\/p>\n<div\/>&#13;<br \/>\n<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nMr Lalani said: \u201cMy dad started with a typical Asian corner shop in Muswell Hill.
