It may seem like a little white lie, one you\u2019ll get a slapped wrist for if caught, but attempting to pervert the course of justice can lead to a prison term.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nRegistered cabbie Iqbal \u2013 an operator for 5 Star cars based in Highgate \u2013 claimed the imaginary Mr Sakoor was driving when his taxi was flashed for speeding in Newtown Row on 31 October 2009.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nHe nominated Sultan Mahmood for topping a 30mph limit in New John Street West, towards Hockley Circus, on 2 August 2010 and gave the same false details when caught going 55mph on the A45 Small Heath Highway on 13 October that year.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nIqbal triggered the same speed camera on the A456 Hagley Road on 9 April 2012 and again just five days later, and on 8 July 2012 was captured on film doing 38mph in Cranford Street towards Winson Green.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nOn all three occasions he told officials that a Mr Sakeel Hussain was driving at the time with the fictitious cabbie (in his absence!) subsequently fined \u00a3600 and given six points on his licence at Sandwell Magistrates Court in November 2012.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nSuspicious licensing staff probed Iqbal\u2019s claims and found none of the people nominated as driving were registered cabbies and, therefore, not insured to drive his taxi.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nThe case was passed to West Midlands Police and enquiries into journey records at 5 Star Cars revealed Iqbal had been working and taken bookings during the times his taxi activated the speed cameras.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nAnd when officers visited the address in Eastbourne Avenue, Hockley Heath \u2013 where Iqbal claimed the three speeders lived \u2013 they discovered the address had stood empty for several years.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nIn interview Iqbal claimed he knew a Mr Sakeel Hussain but took full responsibility for the speeding offences but refused to comment when asked why he supplied Hussain\u2019s details on the Notice of Impending prosecution forms.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nPC Jevons, added: \u201cI hope this case illustrates we will take action against drivers who falsely nominate others to take their penalty points \u2212 and that the consequences of lying to the police can be very serious.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&#13;\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Taxi driver tried dodging fines &amp; licence points by inventing a fictitious cabbi &#13; A speeding taxi driver tried dodging fines and license points by inventing a fictitious cabbie to take the rap \u2013 but was caught out by giving one alter ego a birth date of February 30! &#13; Private hire driver Zafar Iqbal, [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":11753,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-6482","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6482","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=6482"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/6482\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/11753"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=6482"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=6482"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=6482"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
