{"id":64527,"date":"2024-01-05T20:14:34","date_gmt":"2024-01-05T20:14:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/?p=64527"},"modified":"2024-01-05T20:14:34","modified_gmt":"2024-01-05T20:14:34","slug":"the-first-new-years-honours-list-of-king-charles-iii-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2024\/01\/05\/the-first-new-years-honours-list-of-king-charles-iii-announced\/","title":{"rendered":"The First New Year&#8217;s Honours List of King Charles III Announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The first New Year Honours List of King Charles III has been announced and 1,227 people from all over the UK have been honoured for their services to UK society.<\/p>\n<p>The honourees include people who have been devoted to their communities, inspirational in sport, innovative in the arts, caring in health and supportive of young people.<\/p>\n<p>Of those honoured, 48% are women.<\/p>\n<p>Over 13% are from an ethnic minority background.<\/p>\n<p>The honours given out include Companions of Honour (CH), Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (GCB\/KCB\/CB), Order of St Michael and St George (Knight\/GCMG\/KCMG\/DCMG\/CMG), Knighthood and Damehood (Knight\/DBE), Commanders of the Order of the British Empire (CBE), Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) and British Empire Medal (BEM).<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said: \u201cPrime Minister Rishi Sunak said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe New Year Honours List recognises the exceptional achievements of people across the country and those who have shown the highest commitment to selflessness and compassion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo all honourees, you are the pride of this country and an inspiration to us all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden added:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year\u2019s New Year Honours List celebrates the most selfless, compassionate people in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI send them all my warmest congratulations for what they have achieved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur historic honours system exists to recognise these people and shine a light on their heroic contributions and achievements.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI hope that the inspiring stories from across the whole of the UK encourage more people to nominate others for an honour in future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As for the Asian contributions, the New Year Honours List praises the hard work and efforts of men and women with South Asian roots who have made a significant impact on communities around the UK.<\/p>\n<p>Former Conservative Party Chancellor Sajid Javid received a Knighthood. He is the most prominent political figure to be honoured in the 2024 New Year Honours List.<\/p>\n<p>Arsenal FC CEO Vinaichandra Guduguntla Venkatesham received an OBE for services to sport. Another honoured for their services to sport is Dr Sanjay Bhandari, who received an MBE. He is the Chair of Kick It Out, which works to combat discrimination in football. Speaking about the honour, he said: \u201cI am humbled and honoured to receive an award like this.\u201d \u201cIt is a recognition of the team that I have a privilege to lead.
