{"id":6451,"date":"2014-02-03T10:27:56","date_gmt":"2014-02-03T10:27:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2014\/02\/03\/five-years-jail-for-callous-thief\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T13:47:35","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T13:47:35","slug":"five-years-jail-for-callous-thief","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2014\/02\/03\/five-years-jail-for-callous-thief\/","title":{"rendered":"Five years jail for callous thief"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Waheed Ahmed <\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"1\" hspace=\"3\" vspace=\"10\" align=\"middle\" width=\"460\" height=\"225\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Waheed-Ahmed-460x225.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<p>A wicked thief stole disability benefit from a wheelchair user after prowling a Birmingham retirement block looking for vulnerable victims.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nWaheed Ahmed claimed to be collecting charity cash on a door-knocking tour of Balsall Heath and, having pocketed \u00a3200 in loose change, barged his way past the amputee to swipe his fortnightly pay-out from a kitchen table.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nThe 46-year-old took \u00a3480 in notes from the Edward Road address and moments later, as the pensioner was on the phone to police, returned to mop up the remaining pound coins he\u2019d left behind.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nTwo PCSOs from Balsall Heath police station quickly stopped a man in the street suspected of accompanying Ahmed on the bogus collections, whilst house-to-house enquiries identified a man named \u201cSaleem\u201d as being responsible.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nLocal officers linked the name to Ahmed, from Wilton Road in Sparkhill, whilst descriptions of the attacker given by residents also pointed to him being the prime suspect.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nHe was arrested from his home address the morning after the June 14 theft last year and, having initially denied being involved, later admitted burglary after being picked out during ID procedures and being shown CCTV of him near the scene.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nAnd at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday (Jan 27) he was jailed for five years. \u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nInvestigating officer, Detective Constable Alan Nevin from West Midlands Police Force CID, said: \u201cAhmed\u2019s actions were shameful: he conned many residents out of money claiming he was collecting for charity then attacked an amputee pensioner for disability allowance he needed to pay bills.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cHe spotted the money on a table, asked to use a toilet in order to gain access to the house but when refused entry shoved the victim back into his wheelchair and scooped up the money.
