{"id":6368,"date":"2014-01-15T16:39:18","date_gmt":"2014-01-15T16:39:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2014\/01\/15\/doctor-by-day-balti-king-by-night\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T13:44:28","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T13:44:28","slug":"doctor-by-day-balti-king-by-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2014\/01\/15\/doctor-by-day-balti-king-by-night\/","title":{"rendered":"Doctor By Day, Balti King by Night"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Works at Aston University and Haverli Restaurant<\/h3>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"1\" hspace=\"3\" vspace=\"10\" align=\"middle\" width=\"630\" height=\"448\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/mo-ashraf-balti-king-460x225.jpg\"\/><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div\/>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>By day, Mohammed Ashraf works as a pioneering DNA scientist; however by night he works in his family run restaurant; Haweli. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>After completing his degree at Aston University, Mohammed Ashraf, 44, stayed on to do a PhD; work which is helping scientists save both time and money. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>He spent four years working on \u201cefficient methods of randomising DNA, which would enable scientists to make more than one trillion variations of a natural protein for potential drugs or biotechnology use.\u201d <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Alongside research supervisor, Dr Anna Hine, he became the first student of PhD to \u201cwork on developing the technique and was a co-inventor on resulting patents.\u201d <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Mohammed Ashraf said, \u201cA lot of people still remember me studying with my biology books on a table in the the restaurant.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cDoing scientific research and achieving my PhD was a lifelong ambition. I wanted to prove to myself I could do it, and I wanted to be able to call myself a \u2018doctor\u2019. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#8220;But I never thought of becoming a full-time scientist. I love my business because of the people you meet \u2013 people who have become more than customers and are now good friends.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cI even made a poster of my research work and put it up on the wall of the restaurant.
