{"id":6352,"date":"2014-01-07T15:50:26","date_gmt":"2014-01-07T15:50:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2014\/01\/07\/birmingham-school-fundraises-for-survivors-of-typhoon-haiyan\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T13:43:50","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T13:43:50","slug":"birmingham-school-fundraises-for-survivors-of-typhoon-haiyan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2014\/01\/07\/birmingham-school-fundraises-for-survivors-of-typhoon-haiyan\/","title":{"rendered":"Birmingham school fundraises for survivors of Typhoon Haiyan"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Waverley School in Bordesley Green sold cakes and snacks to raise cash<\/h3>\n<div><font size=\"2\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"1\" hspace=\"3\" vspace=\"10\" align=\"middle\" width=\"630\" height=\"448\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/typhoon-Haiyan-kinza-460x225.jpg\"\/><\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\"\/><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">Pupils at a Birmingham school have raised more than \u00a3500 to help the survivors of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">\u00a0<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">Members of the sixth form at Waverley School in Bordesley Green sold cakes and snacks to raise cash for the global children\u2019s charity Plan UK.<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">\u00a0<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">The event was organised by 16-year-old pupil Kinza, who is a member of the charity\u2019s youth advisory panel.<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">\u00a0<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">She recruited her mum to help buy supplies and encouraged her friends to get involved baking and selling the goods.<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">\u00a0<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">\u201cMy mission was to raise as much as I could for the benefit of the Philippines,\u201d says Kinza.<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">\u00a0<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">\u201cWe sold a variety of things all around the school, including cupcakes and brownies that my friends and I had baked in school, plus soft drinks, sweets and crisps.<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">\u00a0<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">\u201cFrom standing at the entrance of school to banging on classroom doors pestering teachers to buy crisps \u2013 we managed to sell out completely an hour before school ended.<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">\u00a0<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">\u201cI would like to say a big thank you to the staff at the school and my friends for their support in making the event so successful,\u201d adds Kinza.<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">\u00a0<\/font><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><font size=\"2\">The teachers, including the head Mr Hanif, also got involved with baking.
