{"id":61832,"date":"2022-08-01T12:19:44","date_gmt":"2022-08-01T11:19:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/?p=61832"},"modified":"2022-08-01T12:19:44","modified_gmt":"2022-08-01T11:19:44","slug":"england-win-womens-euro-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2022\/08\/01\/england-win-womens-euro-2022\/","title":{"rendered":"England Win Women&#8217;s Euro 2022"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>England won its first major women&#8217;s tournament in the Euro 2022 final defeating old rivals and eight-time champions Germany at Wembley.<\/p>\n<p>England beat Gemany after extra-time with a 2-1 win.<\/p>\n<p>Chloe Kelly scored the winning goal on a rebound in the second half of extra time after Germany failed to clear a corner.<\/p>\n<p>Germany were the favourites, having won the tournament eight times<\/p>\n<p>Around 87,000 fans gathered inside Wembley Stadium to watch the match.<\/p>\n<p>England got off to a good start, with Beth Mead causing early problems for the Germans.<\/p>\n<p>The game became a heated affair, with both sets of players flying in with heavy tackles.<\/p>\n<p>The game remained goalless at half-time, with both teams looking good.<\/p>\n<p>The first goal came in when a long-range pass from Keira Walsh found Ella Toone, who broke away from Germany\u2019s defence before calmly chipping the ball over Frohms to make it 1-0.<\/p>\n<p>But Germany did not let the goal affect them, turning up the intensity and creating chances.<\/p>\n<p>Germany\u2019s Lina Magull scored for their team putting the pressure on.<\/p>\n<p>The final few minutes were tense, but England held on to take the game to extra time.<\/p>\n<p>After the final whistle, Wembley was in pandemonium as England\u2019s Women secured their first major trophy.<\/p>\n<p>It was also the first major trophy at senior level since the 1966 men\u2019s World Cup.<\/p>\n<p>As they waited to lift the trophy, the players encouraged the fans to sing and cheer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>England won its first major women&#8217;s tournament in the Euro 2022 final defeating old rivals and eight-time champions Germany at Wembley.
