{"id":6158,"date":"2013-11-12T13:58:21","date_gmt":"2013-11-12T13:58:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2013\/11\/12\/disasters-emergency-committee-launch-appeal-for-typhoon\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T13:36:14","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T13:36:14","slug":"disasters-emergency-committee-launch-appeal-for-typhoon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2013\/11\/12\/disasters-emergency-committee-launch-appeal-for-typhoon\/","title":{"rendered":"Disasters Emergency Committee Launch Appeal for Typhoon"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Appeal is launched by the DEC for Philippines Typhoon<\/h3>\n<div><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"1\" hspace=\"3\" vspace=\"10\" align=\"middle\" width=\"460\" height=\"225\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/phillipines-typhoon-2013-460x225.jpg\"\/><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div\/>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) today launched an appeal for people affected by the devastating Philippines typhoon.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The organisation said its members, which are the UK\u2019s leading aid agencies, are already responding to the crisis but the scale of destruction is such that there is huge unmet need.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Typhoon Haiyan \u2013 said to be the strongest ever to make landfall \u2013 has rendered roads impassable and airports out of action which is severely hampering relief efforts, the DEC said.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>DEC Chief Executive Saleh Saeed said: \u201cThe destruction in Tacloban city, on the east coast, is said to be reminiscent of the Boxing Day Tsunami. There is currently no food, water or electricity. We can only imagine how much worse the situation will be for families living in towns and remote villages.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cDEC members are doing all they can to get aid through but they need a huge injection of funds in order to do so. The priorities are getting food, water and shelter to people in desperate need.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The DEC appeal will go out live tonight on BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Sky, Channel Five and other broadcast outlets, fronted by household names.
