{"id":5674,"date":"2011-11-14T16:44:04","date_gmt":"2011-11-14T16:44:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2011\/11\/14\/city-sixth-form-student-champions-birmingham-culture\/"},"modified":"2011-11-14T16:44:04","modified_gmt":"2011-11-14T16:44:04","slug":"city-sixth-form-student-champions-birmingham-culture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2011\/11\/14\/city-sixth-form-student-champions-birmingham-culture\/","title":{"rendered":"City Sixth Form Student champions Birmingham culture"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Atif Ali, 17, organising \u2018Celebrating Cultures\u2019 event at Small Heath School<\/h3>\n<div><strong>A BIRMINGHAM school will celebrate the city\u2019s rich cultural heritage \u2013 thanks to a passionate student.<\/strong> <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Atif Ali will champion the city\u2019s multicultural make up as part of his Extended Project Qualification at Small Heath School.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The event, titled \u2018Celebrating Cultures\u2019 is a first for the school and will take place on 8 December.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Students at the school will be encouraged to learn about different cultures, with the event including music performances from students as well as a drama production. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>There will also be speeches from special guests. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>As part of the conditions of the Extended Project Qualification 17-year-old Sixth Form student Atif will be responsible for a majority of the organising and management of the event.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>And while the task may seem daunting for some teenagers, for Atif it\u2019s a chance to showcase his passion for Birmingham and its diverse communities. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>He says: \u201cAs part of my Extended Project Qualification, I was asked to do something which was important to me. I believed the need to come together to celebrate as well as recognise cultural diversity was something to be proud of and would in turn promote peace and solidarity. It will also be a vital learning experience not just for me but for everyone who will be coming.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Atif admits he\u2019s gone through a range of emotions as he spends all his spare time organising the event. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cThe emotions involved in organising this event are overwhelming; there are times when I\u2019m stressed and nervous and at other times I&#8217;m excited,\u201d he says.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cOrganising everything is daunting, but it will be rewarding in the end when everything comes together. Organising an event is hard work but I keep imagining the evening and how it&#8217;ll be worth it.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>And it seems Atif\u2019s passion has rubbed off on other students all eager to be part of the \u2018Celebrating Cultures\u2019 event.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cThe support from peers who are close to me has been absolutely breathtaking,\u201d Atif says. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cI have made them believe in the event as much as I do and they are so eager to get involved.
