{"id":5573,"date":"2011-10-05T12:59:24","date_gmt":"2011-10-05T12:59:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2011\/10\/05\/loving-birmingham\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T13:20:45","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T13:20:45","slug":"loving-birmingham","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2011\/10\/05\/loving-birmingham\/","title":{"rendered":"Loving Birmingham!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>New campaign aims to restore pride in city and support local traders<\/h3>\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"middle\" width=\"460\" height=\"247\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/BackingBirminghamAzimBabar_460x225.jpg\"\/><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><strong\/><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><strong\/><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><strong>A MAJOR initiative designed to help restore public confidence in the City Centre, local high streets and to help promote independent retailers and businesses has been launched in Birmingham!<\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Devised by Birmingham City Council, the People Make Places campaign will help to promote local shopping areas in the wake of disturbances in August.\u00a0The \u00a3310k cost of the campaign will be funded from the Government\u2019s High Street Support Scheme to help cities affected by the recent disturbances.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Central to the Birmingham initiative will be the introduction of a free special card, known as the B Card, which will give Birmingham residents special offers at participating independent businesses during the month of October.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Participating stores will display \u2018Backing Birmingham\u2019 signs in their windows, with many businesses already signed up to take part in the scheme.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>And one retailer who\u2019s given a thumbs up to the campaign is Azim Babar.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Mr Babar owns Safina Fashions in Acocks Green and he\u2019s welcomed the new initiative. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cThe village has been suffering for the last 9 or 10 years,\u201d he says.\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m really pleased to hear that something is being done in Acocks Green.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Such is Mr Babar\u2019s support for the scheme; organisers have included him in advertising material for the Acocks Green area!<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Cllr, Timothy Huxtable, Cabinet Member for Transport, Environment and Regeneration at Birmingham City Council who launched the campaign said:\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s time to take pride in our communities, to make the most of our strengths and acknowledge that it\u2019s Birmingham\u2019s people who make these places special.
