{"id":5504,"date":"2011-09-16T17:02:17","date_gmt":"2011-09-16T17:02:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2011\/09\/16\/sikh-cultural-centre-protest-cctv-images-released\/"},"modified":"2011-09-16T17:02:17","modified_gmt":"2011-09-16T17:02:17","slug":"sikh-cultural-centre-protest-cctv-images-released","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2011\/09\/16\/sikh-cultural-centre-protest-cctv-images-released\/","title":{"rendered":"Sikh Cultural Centre Protest CCTV images released"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Police appeal for help in identifying individuals <\/h3>\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"middle\" width=\"460\" height=\"248\" src=\"http:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/Image\/ArticleImages\/SikhculturalcentreCCTV_460x225.jpg\"\/><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><strong\/><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><strong\/><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><strong>CCTV IMAGES have been released by police investigating disorder which broke out at a community centre in Dudley earlier this year.<\/strong> <br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nPolice launched an investigation after a pre-planned protest turned to violence on\u00a0Swancote Road in the town on Saturday 28 May.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Violence erupted at around\u00a012.45pm when people protesting at the serving of meat and alcohol at the centre forced their way into the building, which is adjacent to the Sri Guru Nanak Singh\u00a0Sabha\u00a0Gurdwara on Wellington Road.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nAround 200 people were involved in the protest which resulted in a police officer and two members of the public receiving head injuries.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nRoads around the building were closed for five hours to allow emergency services access to the site, while the force helicopter hovered overhead capturing the incident on camera.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nOfficers from across the force attended the incident to restore order and assist in negotiations between protesters and the centre\u2019s management.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nProtesters ended their occupation of the building at around\u00a06pm when centre managers agreed to ban the supply of meat and alcohol on the premises.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nSignificant damage was caused to the inside of the community centre which remains cordoned-off this evening while specialist forensic examiners search for evidence.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nInspector Richard Jones, from Dudley Police, said: \u201cWhat started as a peaceful protest turned to violence when a minority of people started throwing missiles at officers and then forced their way inside the centre.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cSignificant damage was caused to the premises and our investigation into what happened on the day continues.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cDetectives have trawled through CCTV from the site and the vicinity as part of the inquiry and we now ask for help in identifying some of those people we would now like to speak to.<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n\u201cWe urge anyone with information to assist with identification to come forward and help us at their earliest convenience.\u201d<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nAnyone with information on those responsible for the disorder and vandalism should call Dudley police on 0345 113 5000.
