{"id":5370,"date":"2011-07-07T15:36:23","date_gmt":"2011-07-07T15:36:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tat.reddaisytrading.co.uk\/index.php\/2011\/07\/07\/we-can-now-move-on-say-family-of-stab-death-victim\/"},"modified":"2016-01-07T13:06:49","modified_gmt":"2016-01-07T13:06:49","slug":"we-can-now-move-on-say-family-of-stab-death-victim","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.theasiantoday.com\/index.php\/2011\/07\/07\/we-can-now-move-on-say-family-of-stab-death-victim\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018We can now move on\u2019, say family of stab death victim"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"content\">\n<h3>Andrew Smith jailed for life for murder of Nitu Das<\/h3>\n<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" vspace=\"3\" align=\"middle\" width=\"460\" height=\"248\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/theasiantoday.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/AndrewSmith_460x225.jpg\"\/><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><strong\/><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><strong\/><\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div><strong>THE father of a Leicester man who was stabbed to death has paid tribute to officers who helped\u00a0bring his son\u2019s killer to justice. <\/strong>\u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Jantu Das praised officers from Leicestershire Constabulary for their \u201chard work\u201d in bringing killer Andrew Smith to justice.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Smith was jailed for life at Coventry Crown Court after being found guilty of the murder of 23-year-old Nitu Babu Das.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>The court heard how Smith had chased Nitu before stabbing him in the heart following an altercation outside a property in Loughborough last July. <\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Smith, 39, was sentenced to\u00a0serve a minimum of 22 years. \u00a0<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>A further defendant was acquitted of Nitu\u2019s murder and perverting the course of justice.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Following the verdict Nitu\u2019s father Jantu said the conviction would help his family move forward following a double tragedy which saw their other son, Rajdeep Das, 20, die in a car crash on the M6 last October.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>In a statement he said: \u201cThroughout the trial it has been a stressful and difficult time for us. We are very pleased with the conviction and hope that now we will be able to move forward as a family.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cWe would like to thank the police in particular for all their hard work throughout the investigation. They have been very supportive to us as have Victim Support.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cThe local community have also been helpful in offering and giving their assistance to our family.\u201d<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>Detective Chief Inspector Neil Castle, who led the investigation team, paid tribute to Nitu\u2019s family and the investigation team who worked on the enquiry.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>He said: &#8220;They have been needlessly robbed of any kind of future with him and nothing will ever be the same for them. Nitu\u2019s murder has had a devastating impact on his family and they have had to go through the further ordeal of losing their other son, Raj, some three months later in a road traffic collision.<\/div>\n<p>&#13;<\/p>\n<div>\u201cI know that this has been difficult for Nitu\u2019s family to sit through but we hope that today\u2019s result will help them to move forward.
